"Fields of Athenry" es una canción folk irlandesa que alguna gente cree proviene de los tiempos de la gran hambruna, alrededor de 1880. Por lo visto, en realidad fue escrita por primera vez en la década de 1970. La canción habla sobre un ciudadano de la zona de Athenry (condado de Galway), condenado a ser deportado a Australia por el crimen de robar grano a la administración británica para alimentar a su familia. Se menciona el dolor de dejar atrás a su esposa y la añoranza de los tiempos en los que recorrió enamorado los campos de su tierra.

Tiene ciertos tintes nacionalistas y anti-ingleses, lo que viene pasando en la historia moderna de Irlanda vamos. Tendríais que ver los comentarios que hay por los vídeos de youtube... pero nada de eso quita para que sea una bonita balada, así que a disfrutar de esta versión de los Dubliners.
